Mayor de Blasio touted progress in New York City’s fight against coronavirus, but continued to urge caution after 202 people died Thursday and the number of hospital admissions increased slightly.

The city saw 2,637 new confirmed cases in the five boroughs Thursday, de Blasio said.

“This virus is tragically still alive and well and living in this city,” Hizzoner said during a briefing Friday. “We have not beaten it and we should not take it lightly."

The number of people admitted to both public and private hospitals with COVID-19 symptoms increased to 136 on Wednesday, up from the 129 total new admissions on Tuesday.

The Public Health Lab conducts coronavirus testing for the sickest patients, health officials said. “The good news here, is we are winning this fight,” de Blasio said. “The bad news is, we have not yet won.”

The feeling I have that the most powerful city in this world, rightfully its center, has plunged into a dark fog. It clouded the avenues, fell as dark raindrops on the Hudson River, reflected as a black shine in the eyes of people and literally cut off New York from the whole world. But even if the world suffocates in agony now, I believe that with the help of medical workers the cute will be finally created and we all will come back to the normal life.
